SMALL turnout today, however we worked hard.  We blasted through several stress drills and loads of combat strikes. We practiced front kicks to a horizontal target, palm heel strikes, knee strikes, and combinations. We finished up with defense against hand gun to the back. Despite this being an advanced technique- the students go it down fairly well and in a quick manner. As in all things with martial arts, the longer you practice- the easier it becomes to learn more advanced techniques.

It was a strange traditional karate class today. Huge turn out- but the students, or maybe it was me, just seemed distracted. All in all, I believe we had a good class/workout, however, I’d like to see more focus and concentration next time out.

fitness- my philosophy has always been that making fitness/conditioning a part of my program is vital. You can visit thousands of martial art schools across the nation and see more than your fair share of overweight black belts, which is a violation of the martial way. fitness through self defense and fighting is what my program is all about. learning techniques, where to place those techniques, and developing a sense of awareness and aggression are vital as well. so if you are training in  a program that rarely makes you sweat, or rarely challenges your fitness level- look somewhere else.

World Cup Tomorrow! Great week for our traditional karate program. We’ve enrolled three new students.  Sony pictures passed on 28 passes to a free screening tonight for the Karate Kid. Unfortunately, I cannot go, but many of my students and family will be able to enjoy a new Karate Kid Adventure. BTW- Hate remakes, but I’m hearing great things about this film. Remember, we are an Official Krav Maga Training Center. Tell your friends. We offer the very best of self defense and fitness at Jett Garner Martial Arts. Proudly serving Westlake, 78746 & 78733 since 2004!

Cheers.

Our first Tuesday night Krav Maga class went down last night. It was a hit. This class is open to my traditional students and my krav maga students. There was great energy in the class. We worked on front kicks, followed by a hammer fist. We worked stress and conditioning drills. All in all it was a great time. Don’t forget the Karate Kid comes out this weekend, and despite my general disdain for remakes, I hear great things about this film.

Krav Maga students get ready for one heck of a class tonight. You will be tired afterwards.

Martial Arts students- summer is here. Time to buckle down and get it done.

Very excited about the world cup! Should be great summer!

Cheers,
Jett

Jett Garner Martial Arts proudly serving Westlake,  Austin, Texas, in the instruction of goju Ryu Karate and Israeli Krav Maga.

Here we are in June already. Wow! Time is flying by. All three of my children are doing great. Our eldest, Diego, who is now four, has been training for a few months. He still has a hard time separating Daddy and Sensei. However, he enjoys going to classes, which is the most important thing for a four year old.

Krav Maga – we had a real tough class yesterday. The students worked hard and started their weekend with bang.

Goju Ryu Karate- class was well attended yesterday. We worked some combo’s, sparring, and self defense drills.

Cheers,

Jett

Forgot to mention- baby Eisa, was born 5-25-10. She is 8.3 lbs…. and 19″ long. Very cute and extremely mild mannered.

Goju ryu- Congrats Aric Cates who began his brown belt program last night for goju ryu karate.

Krav Maga Westlake Austin- we added another night of training- Tuesdays at 715-815 pm. This will be a Krav Maga fit for fighting class. However, traditional students who normally attend Tuesday nights are still welcome- it will simply be a pad striking class and combo’s class- which is what you are used too…

Remember Black Belt sparring tonight at Jett Garner Martial Arts, Karate, and Krav Maga in Westlake.

Thanks,
Jett

Jett Garner here with Jett Garner Martial Arts in Westlake, a neighborhood on the west side of Austin.  We are officially a Krav Maga Training Center. The Krav Maga program is going great. We have about a dozen Krav students who have signed up just in the last month.

Our traditional program is going great. We are at about 56 students, which is means we’re at an all time high.

We worked hard tonight in Karate. We did a lot of sparring, defense against bear hugs, and a lot Krav Maga pad work.

Cheers,

Jett

Happy Holidays! In some ways 2009 was a great year for the school and my family. In other ways, I am excited to kick off a New Year and a new decade. In regards to our school- I’m extremely motivated to increase our student population by fifty percent this year. I see the benefits of our program in each and every student, and I know what my competitors are offering. We are the best program in Westlake- hands down. So, we need to be more visible so more people in Westlake can train in a school that does not produce black belts over night. My motto has always been quality not quantity. However, with 2010 upon us my new motto will be, “Quality and Quantity.” Many thanks the JGMA students and families. Congratulations to our new black belts! Happy New Year! I’ve left some photos of our family! Enjoy!
